Scissors are one of the most overlooked edged tools in the home. Easily abused, it is amazing how many people will use shears to cut a piece of “something” they were not intended to cut! A word on scissors and shears: Scissors have symmetrical, equally sized finger holes and are generally under 6″ in blade length, while shears have one smaller finger hole and one larger finger hole and are more than 6″ in blade length. Both may be used to cut hair or fabric and both are sharpened the same.
There are also different angles to the blades ranging from 15-40 degrees with some having convex blades while older styles have the knife edge, flat bevel. Scissors and shears are wonderful tools and we take great pride in helping our customers maintain these prized possessions! Regardless of size, shape, quality or bevel at the Strop and Stone Shop we will endeavor to keep your scissors and shears razor sharp.
